Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin is the central government’s flagship program to provide affordable housing to all. Targeting the poor in rural areas, the project will provide pucca houses with basic facilities, including a hygienic kitchen, to residents of kutcha houses.
It is the successor to the Indira Awas Yojana. Similar welfare measures were enacted by the government in 1985 and are considered one of the most comprehensive social programs.
Scheme of Subsidies for Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG)
- Beneficiaries of the initiative are eligible to borrow up to Rs. 70,000 from financial institutions.
- There is a 3% interest subsidy.
- The subsidy’s maximum principal amount is Rs. 2 lakh.
- The highest subsidy amount available for the EMI due is Rs. 38,359.
The following are the PMAYG scheme’s key characteristics:
- In plain regions, the Central and State governments would split the unit’s cost 60:40, providing Rs. 1.20 lakh in funding for each unit.
- In the northeastern states, the Himalayan states, and the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory (UT), the ratio is 90:10, with an assistance of Rs. 1.30 lakh per unit.
- The Center for Union Territories, which includes Ladakh UT, is providing 100% of the funding. MGNREGS pays beneficiaries Rs. 90.95 per day for unskilled labor.
- The Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) characteristics are used to identify beneficiaries, and Gram Sabhas confirm this information.
- Up to Rs. 12,000 in building assistance for restrooms would be given under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) in association with MGNREGS or other programs.
- Electronic payments are made immediately to post offices or bank accounts that are connected to Aadhaar.
PMAYG (Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin) Eligibility Criteria:
The qualifying requirements are as follows, encompassing distinct priority lists and particular deprivation scores:
- Families without homes
- Families who live in homes with zero, one, or two rooms that have kutcha roofs and walls.
- Households in which there isn’t a literate adult over 25.
- Households with no male adult member between the ages of 16 and 59.
- Households having no adults in them between the ages of 16 and 59.
- Households with one person who is impaired and one member who is able-bodied.
- Families without land whose only source of income is contract labor.
- Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, Minorities, and Others.
Characteristics that will exclude recipients from the PMAY Gramin Program:
- Applicants with motorized two-, three-, or four-wheelers as well as fishing or agricultural equipment.
- Applicants who currently hold a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) with a limit of at least Rs. 50,000 in every home where at least one person works for the government or makes more than Rs. 10,000 a month.
- Someone with a landline phone connection, a refrigerator, or who pays professional or income taxes.
How to apply/register/add Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG) Beneficiary:
The beneficiary registration process consists of four sections:
- Personal Details
- Bank Account Details
- Convergence Details
- Associated Office Details
If you have successfully registered or would like to add a beneficiary, please follow the steps below.
- Visit: Official PMAYG registration website.
- Enter the required details in the Personal Information section (such as gender, mobile number, Aadhaar number, etc).
- Upload the required consent form for the use of the Aadhaar number.
- Click the search button to search for beneficiary name, PMAY ID, and priority.
- Click Select and Register.
- Beneficiary data is automatically generated and displayed.
- You can now enter the remaining information about the beneficiary. For example: Type of property, kinship, Aadhaar number, etc.
- Upload the required consent form for the use of the Aadhaar number on behalf of the beneficiary.
In the next section, add the recipient’s account details to the required fields:
- Beneficiary name,bank account number, etc.
- If the beneficiary wishes to obtain a loan using these, please select “Yes” and enter the desired loan amount.
- In the next section, enter their MGNREGA job card number and the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number of the beneficiary.
- The next sections will be completed by the relevant office.
Documents Required to Apply for PMAY G
The following papers are required in order to get the advantages of this housing project:
- The Aadhaar number of the applicant and a copy of their Aadhaar card that has been self-attested.
- A permission letter and the recipient’s thumbprint are required if the beneficiary is illiterate.
- An appropriate MGNREGA-registered employment beneficiary card.
- Bank account data – both originals and copies.
- Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number of the applicant.
Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG) – Benefits:
- All the beneficiaries of this scheme can avail a loan of up to Rs 70,000 from pre-defined financial institutions.
- This amount will be used for the construction of permanent housing.
- If you repay this amount, you will receive several benefits.
- First, the interest rate is 3% lower than a regular, unsubsidized loan.
- The upper limit of the capital that can claim subsidy is Rs. 200,000.
Additional benefits like LPG connections and other important amenities covered under the Ujjwala Yojana are also available. Additional financial support will be available for 4,444 homes built in hilly areas.
